Vivian L. Mitchell

Vivian L. Mitchell, 93, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016.

Born October 10, 1922 in New Kensington, she was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in 1945, with a Bachelors Degree in Social Studies.  At Pitt, she belonged to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. 

Mrs. Mitchell was a caseworker/supervisor at the Westmoreland County Board of Assistance for almost 22 years, retiring in 1982. 

She was a founder of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Washington Township, where she served as their Clerk and their Treasurer.  She enjoyed all activities of her church, and especially her Bible study.  She also loved reading, newspapers, and especially reading the Bible, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and traveling.  She enjoyed supporting numerous charities, especially the Seventh Day Adventist Church. 

Survivors include her brother-in-law and caregivers, Will (Elaine) Varner; and nieces and caregivers, Lisa (Troy) Hill and Laura (Dana) Norman and their families; and nephew, William J. (Simone) Varner; brother Melvin (Donna) Smith; cousins Bobby Chambers, Ed Oliver, Jim (Wilda) Chambers and Michael (Natalie) Prince; and several nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Mitchell who died in 1993.

Viewing will be in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, where a service will be held Thursday at 11 AM by Elder Moses Sosigian.  Entombment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.  To leave an online condolence visit www.rossgwalker.com
