William John Murray Obituary

William John Murray, 80, of Freeport and formerly of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026.


He was born April 11, 1946 in New Kensington to the late William Berlinski and Eleanor Murray and was a 1964 graduate of Ken-Hi, then attended Robert Morris College. 


Mr. Murray was a truck driver for Freeport Transport for 25 years, retiring in 2005.  Previously he was a coal miner and was employed several years by Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge.  He was a social member of the Freeport VFW, an avid reader, and enjoyed the pursuit of astronomy and the unknown, and was a follower of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos science documentaries.   Most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  


Surviving are his son Bryan (Christie) Murray; four grandchildren, Liam, Madison, Noah and Sydney; his sister, Susan Bright; and cousins, Joan (Jack) Conte, Jean Simmons and Diane and Janine Murray. 


Besides his parents, he was preceded by his longtime companion Rosemary Lang.
