Virginia Walker Obituary

Virginia Marie (Willitt) Walker, 97, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the early morning of April 1, 2024, at her home.  She was born on January 23, 1927, in New Kensington and was the daughter of the late Clayton Scott and Marie Bernice (Miller) Willitt, and the dedicated wife of 51 years to the late Ross Graham Walker Jr. Ginny was a 1944 graduate of New Kensington High School (Ken-Hi) and attended New Kensington Commercial School. She worked briefly at the Pentagon typing condolence letters to families of lost soldiers before returning home to New Kensington. She went on to work for Bell Telephone and later Eich Motor, where she would walk down 9th Street and 2nd Avenue past Dyke Automotive.  It was here that she reunited with her high school classmate, Ross Walker Jr.  Ginny and Ross married and became life partners on May 15, 1953. Together they founded and built Ross G. Walker Funeral Home Ltd., where she proudly devoted over 50 years to serving the community of New Kensington with honor, dedication, and respect. She was a lifetime member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Kensington, over 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, New Kensington Chapter 158, now Kittanning Chapter 277, and the most spectacular mom, grandma, and Mimi that anyone could ever ask for. Ginny will fondly be remembered for her tender heart and grace, leaving a legacy of tradition and a solid foundation of love. Survivors include her son, Ross G. (Alicia Gismondi) Walker III, of Upper Burrell Township; daughter, Lisa Ann Walker, of New Kensington, with whom she lived; three grandchildren, Lillyanna Kate Walker, Kahley Marie (Zack) Gatto and Ross G. "Cubby" Walker IV; and three great grandchildren, Laila Rose, Johnie Graham, and Owen Nix; and former daughter-in-law, Anna Johnson Walker. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Clayton Willitt, who lived with her for many years prior to his death in 2019 at the age of 95. We are honored and privileged to handle the care of our beloved mom and grandma, and would like to thank UPMC Family Hospice, her caregivers, and Barbara Carnahan for their remarkable care and compassion during this delicate time.
