Samuel A. “Sam” Santoro, 94, formerly of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023.
He was born June 18, 1929 in New Kensington, and also lived in Lower Burrell and Woodstock, GA, the past 24 years.
Mr. Santoro served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio R. Santoro & Elizabeth Santoro (Conteen); brothers, Fredrick “Freddie" & Emidio “Ämy”; and son-in-law, Don Lysacek
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna (Ward) Santoro; and sister, Rose Marie (Santoro) Sukala; daughters, Tanya Santoro Lysacek, Chyrisse Santoro (Russell) Chason; grandchildren, Laura Lysacek, Cole (Laurel) Chason, Evan (Dang) Lysacek, Dana Chason (Tom) May, Christina Lysacek (Ryan) Metzger; and seven great-grandchildren.
Sam’s true passion was his family, helping and taking care of people with whatever was necessary. He kept everyone entertained and laughing with all of the great stories that he told, especially the ones that included his best friend and brother-in-law Ernie Pradelli. Sam was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, following the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins even after his move to Georgia in 1999.
He was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church serving for many years on various committees. He was also a member of the Seventh Street Sportsman’s Club. Sam was employed many years by Galli Beer Distributing Company, Keystone Dairy and Watson Standard Paint.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 24, from 11:45 am until time of service at 12:30 pm in St. George Orthodox Church, 1150 Leishman, Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068. Burial and military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sam to St. George Orthodox Church. ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME OF NEW KENSINGTON was entrusted with the arrangements.
