Roberta "Bobbie" Merrick

Roberta “Bobbie” Merrick, 78, of New Kensington became whole and transitioned as she embarked on a new journey with her loyal family by her side on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She was born November 12, 1943 in Pittsburgh to the late Bob and Louise (Fenner) Scholze.

Roberta graduated with a teaching degree from Grove City College and had a great respect and placed a high value on one’s education, especially the benefits of a preschool education. In her own words, “It was a calling for me.” While she was a stay-at-home mom with her newborn, she became a founder and director of the Bethel Nursery School where she served in her “home away from home” for more than 40 years. Bobbie was a vibrant and accomplished woman, serving as a guiding light and shaping thousands of children’s lives that walked through her classroom. She was known for always striving to do her absolute best with what God gave her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her deep passion, patience, and grace. Her daily presence has left an everlasting imprint on our lives.

Bobbie is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, John A. Merrick II; children, John A. (Shannon) Merrick III, Cristen (Brian) Speedy, Susan (Jason) McKruit, and Robert (Valerie) Merrick; grandchildren, Nick (Tristen) Speedy, Sara Speedy, Hannah Speedy, Samantha Geracia, Tyler Merrick, AJ (Dede) McKruit, Noah McKruit, and Vivian Padron Merrick; great-grandson, Elijah McKruit; and brother, Gary (Denise) Scholze.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin granddaughters in infancy, Jami and Jennifer McKruit.

Please join us to celebrate and honor Roberta’s life with viewing from 2-4 P.M. & 6-8 P.M. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Ross G. Walker Funeral Home Ltd., 217 Freeport Road. New Kensington, where additional viewing will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of funeral service at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Pastor Donald Cook will officiate.
