Robert P. “Bob” Bordonaro, 81, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New Kensington on January 10, 1943, to the late Joseph “Babe” & Lydia Vinson Bordonaro, and was a 1960 graduate of Ken-Hi.
Mr. Bordonaro started working at Hillcrest Motors, Lower Burrell in 1962 at the age of 19 and purchased the dealership in 1980, renaming the corporation Hillcrest Volkswagen. He was also co-owner, along with his son, “Bob,” of Gunny’s Restaurant and Lounge in New Kensington. He enjoyed golfing at, and was a member of Hill Crest Country Club of Lower Burrell, and was a life member of the B.P.O.E. #512 of New Kensington, which merged with the Elks Lodge of Tarentum, where he was on their bowling league. He also belonged to the Moose Lodge of Lower Burrell, and the C.L.O.A. Club of New Kensington.
Bob enjoyed spending time boating on the Allegheny River with his family in the summer months for over 20 years as a captain of his boat, Carrie On II, and spent four months of every year in West Palm Beach, Florida, with friends who became like a second family to him.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Catherine “Cathy” J. Dahm Bordonaro; children, Robert A. “Bob” Bordonaro (Jamie Rimmel) of New Kensington, Randy J. Bordonaro (Kristy Kunkle) of Arnold, and Carrie L. (Wayne) Caprino of Lower Burrell; cherished grandchildren, Randy J. Bordonaro, Jr., Katherine A. Bordonaro, Cecilia C. Caprino and Luke A. Caprino; his brother, John A. (Audrey) Bordonaro of Pottsville; his best friend throughout his life, Paul Goodwin; and his beloved cat, Smokey.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Donna Jean Fennell.
Viewing will be on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 1-4 and 6-9 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service will be co-officiated by Rev. Dean Ward and Rev. Harold Mele, on Saturday, November 9, at 11 AM in THE RIVER 15068 CHURCH, 273 Chester Drive, Lower Burrell. Anyone attending the service is asked to go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Those desiring may contribute to the church in Mr. Bordonaro’s memory.
