Robert Swank, Jr. Obituary

Robert N Swank Jr., 86, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1937 in New Kensington, grew up in Camp Joann, and graduated from Ken High.

Bob worked at Tyson Metal Products, Holiday Park, in commercial refrigeration for over 30 years and was a proud 65 year member of Steamfitter’s Local 449. He was also a distinguished 60 year member of Tyrian Lodge #644 Free and Accepted Masons, New Kensington, was a 32nd degree mason in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Pittsburgh, and also active in the Shrine of Cheswick.  He was a lifelong and generational member of Union Presbyterian Church in Camp Joann.

Bob was a great storyteller and could always entertain with stories of his youth and family history. He was kind and giving of his time and expertise in planning, building, and repairing. Everyone who visited the home that Bob and Mary Jean built in Utopia was welcomed to relax on their back porch and enjoy the beautiful landscape and gardens Bob proudly worked hard to maintain. Bob used his job skills like soldering and wiring to create beautiful stained glass lamps and art which he generously gave to others.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Jean Swank; children Mark (Robbin) Swank, Debbie (Chris) Stultz, and Cindy (John) Geahry; grandchildren Jeremy, Brittany, Steven, Tanner, Gabe, Hannah, Luke, and Aaron; 10 great grandchildren; his brother and best friend, Bill Swank; and countless other family and friends who love him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R. Nelson Swank Sr. and Cora (Hall) Swank, his cherished sister Florence (Swank) Copeland, and his grandson Kevin.
