Richard Arthur “Dick” Veitch – loving husband, father, and grandfather – joined the Lord at the age of 82 on December 20th, 2022.
Richard was born June 22nd, 1940, to Robert and Thelma Veitch in New Kensington. It was there that he met Delores Jeanette Roberts, whom he married on August 5th, 1960, and together they had four children.
Richard graduated from New Kensington High School in 1958, earned a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology in 1963, and obtained an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966. He had an accomplished career in the steel industry for four decades, rising through the ranks to become a Senior Vice President at LTV Steel Corporation and subsequently the CEO of Trico Steel Company. Among his peers, he was acknowledged as a natural leader and problem solver.
In retirement, Richard served on various community boards and advisory panels, advocating for the desires, needs, and rights of his neighbors. Richard would later serve as caretaker to his beloved wife of 59 years. He regarded this as his most important role, with his exceptional love and devotion to Delores during that time serving as the ultimate measure of his character.
Throughout his life, Richard was an avid golfer, voracious reader, and loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan. His sharp intellect was evident to all during his regular pinochle, bridge, and chess sessions. His compassion for others and warm sense of humor were a comfort to all who knew him. Richard shared his hobbies with his children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends, and those fond memories will always remain in their hearts and minds.
Most important of all, Richard’s confidence was in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He rejoiced in the promise of meeting the Lord in Heaven, as well as the eventual heavenly reunion with his loved ones.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Robert Veitch; mother, Thelma Veitch; wife, Delores Veitch; daughters, Patricia Osorio and Barbara Veitch; and brother, Reverend Dr. Robert Veitch.
He is survived by sons, Richard (Katherine) Veitch and Jeffrey (Rayanne) Veitch; seven grandchildren, Limber Osorio, Amanda Veitch, Abigail Veitch, Juleissy (Jose) Vazquez, Richard Veitch, Jacob Veitch, and Brian Veitch; and two great-grandchildren, Daniela and Alexander Gonzalez.
A visitation for Richard will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2023, from 11:00 AM until services at 12:00 NOON in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
