Philip Carl "Newz" Smith, Jr., 42, husband to Kyla Hughley-Smith, was born to Philip Carl Smith Sr., and Demeatrice Smith, on May 17, 1982 in Trenton, NJ.  Newz departed this life peacefully at home on Sunday, December 15, 2024 surrounded by family and friends, in New Kensington.
Newz was a devoted Eagles Fan, proudly sporting his jersey in enemy territory. He enjoyed having a good time, rehashing memories of his youth and breaking bread with his family and friends. Newz was a gaming enthusiast, who loved to dress crisp and clean and was a proud sneaker head.  In his past–time he could be found playing corn hole, bowling and traveling. He loved to share stories of his latest trip to Lake Tahoe, NV and travels to Jamaica.
Philip’s education began in the Trenton Public School, where he attended Jefferson Elementary, Luis Munoz-Revera Elementary and Morrisville High School, where he was a successful football player—leading in tackles and sportsmanship. He was recruited to play at Weidner University and elected to master a trade at Job Corps in Pittsburgh, PA.

His career started at River’s Edge (NJ) where he was a dietary aide and later worked at Rotelli(PA) as a line chef. He continued his education in the electrical field where he obtain his degree as a certified electrician and years of experience at jobs throughout the Pittsburgh area including: Coin Wrap Inc (PA) as a machinist, Brightwood Academy as an the in house electrician, McConway & Torley (PA) for 10+ years as a safety rep and in-house electrician. He was also employed at Chelsea Building Products (PA) and since 2021 was the in-house electrician, safety rep and safety chair at Resco Products (PA).
Newz fought a good fight when he was diagnosed with Gastric Stomach cancer. During this time, Newz never lost his sense of humor or joy watching the Eagles Fly High.
Newz was preceded in death by his father Philip Carl Smith Sr., Grandmother Annie Porter-Breeden, Pop Pop Judge Henry Pickett, Aunt Wanda Williams, Uncle Alan Smith and Great Uncle Homer Porter.
Newz’s warm and bright smile will be forever cherished and held dear by his wife Kyla Hughley-Smith; daughter Paige Cook; step-son Anthony Hughley; grandson Alijah Hughley; God-children Rayne Thomas and Amarii Dawson-Hughley; his mother Demeatrice Smith; grandmother Bessie Pickett;  brother Maurice C. Smith (NJ), Patrease M. Leonard (Rhet) NJ, Dominique M Scott, (NJ); nieces and nephews: Jyrese, D’Metrius, Jubilee, River, Tyler; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

Viewing will be Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 1PM until services at 3PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington.  Repast will follow immediately afterwards at Zoe Community Center, 1040 Kenneth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068.
