Patricia Carter Obituary

Patricia Diane Carter, was born March 25, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA to James Johnson and Dorothy Williams. She passed peacefully in her home in Arnold, PA on March 14, 2025, just days shy of her 78th birthday.
In 1956, she was adopted by Mary B. and Hiram Smith and moved to Parkersburg, WV. She moved back to New Kensington, PA when Dorothy Williams’ husband Danny suggested Dorothy unite Diane with their family which included siblings Donnie (Gwen), Mary Francis, Hank (Vicki), and Letha. As a result, Diane had rich and diverse family connections over the course of her life, with multiple additional siblings including Cecil (Robin), Walt (Wanda), Michael, Greg, Sonny, Irene, and Earl.
After attending Parkersburg High School, Diane embarked on a diverse career, leaving a trail of accomplishments in each role she embraced. In 1988, she went back and completed her GED. Diane found profound joy in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them navigate daily life with dignity and care. Her most fulfilling chapter was at Valley Community Services, where she dedicated 13 years of service before retiring.
A woman of deep conviction, she never hesitated to passionately voice her opinion on how things should be done, always striving for excellence. Her devotion to family was unwavering—she set clear expectations and lovingly guided them to meet those expectations. That same passion extended to her community, where she selflessly volunteered wherever she was needed, leaving a lasting impact on those around her. She was a daughter of the IBPOE of Walter Valley Lodge 294. She also took great pride in the Certificate of Appreciation she received from The Gosby “Goose” Pryor Summer Basketball Tournament in recognition of her support.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents; siblings—Donnie, Mary Francis, Letha, Sonny, Irene, and Earl, her great grandson Isaac, her longtime partner Tony Wilson, and her beloved canine companion Sassy.
Diane’s real legacy will be seen in the accomplishments of her four children Tony, Missy, Michael, and Don; her 21 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Additionally, her bonus children, Cindy, Tony, Tory, Angie and Antoinette, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends will miss her presence.
