Nellie Frances Shirey, 95, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

She was born in New Kensington on January 2, 1931 to the late George & Marie Jones Hepler, attended Ken-Hi, and received her GED in 1971 at the age of 40.  

Mrs. Shirey had many jobs over her lifetime, but one of her most rewarding was as a caretaker for the elderly and disabled with Care At Home, New Kensington.  She was a 72 year member of the East Kensington Community Circle and a longtime member of the Logans Ferry United Presbyterian Church, both in New Kensington.

Surviving are her son, Samuel H. (Deborah) Shirey Jr., of New Kensington, daughters, Marie (Lewis) Cox of Allegheny Township, Neva Beradone of New Kensington, and Holly (Steve) Rogers of North Carolina; beloved daughter-in-law, Janet Shirey; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her brother, Gerald (Debbie) Hepler of Vandergrift.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Samuel H. Shirey, Sr., in 1994; her son, George M. Shirey, Sr.; brother Samuel Hepler; and sister Georgia Borkowski.

Private services were entrusted to ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, of New Kensington.  Burial will be beside her husband in Sligo Cemetery, Clarion County.
