Myra Ruth (Grossek) Atkinson

Myra Ruth (Grossek) Atkinson, 82, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 27, 2021. She was born June 6, 1939 in Barking, PA to the late Bernard and Madeline (Clusta) Grossek.

Myra was a graduate of Plum High School Class of 1957. She carried a love of education throughout her entire life, becoming a teacher after earning a teaching certificate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), formerly Indiana State Teacher’s College. She was a guiding light to all student’s lives she touched, with a focus in business and English course of studies. Myra was a very active parishioner at Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Parish, where she proudly served as a member of the Addolorata Society. She was an avid book club member and cherished time spent with her family. 

Myra is survived by her two sons, Michael and Jack Jr. Atkinson; sister, Ann Yakopec; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Atkinson Sr.; son, Bernard “Barney” Atkinson; and sister, Elvera Sakaluk.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Anyone attending Mass is asked to go directly to church. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold. All services were entrusted to ROSS G.
