Mathilda Irene Milauskas, 97, formerly of New Kensington, passed away on November 11, 2023 at Ohio Living-Westminster Thurber in Columbus, Ohio, hours after visiting with family and friends.
Mathilda “Tillie” was born at home in New Kensington, to Lithuanian immigrants, Joseph and Mary Milauskas on Jan. 16, 1926. Upon graduation from New Kensington High School in 1944 she became their high school secretary, working with successive principals for 40+ years.
Survivors include nephew Vincent Mazeika, his wife Christina Clark of Columbus, Terry Kerrigan (nephew in law), cousins in New York, California, Lithuania and dearest special friends - the Robert Pinchok family of New Kensington. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Vittanis “Joe” sister Anne Milauskas Mazeika, brother in law Vincent A. Mazeika, niece Deanne Mazeika Kerrigan and great nephew Patrick Kerrigan.
Mathilda’s life was much devoted to service: New Kensington H.S.
St. Joseph’s Church, Catholic Daughters of America, The Western Pennsylvania Lithuanian Citizens Society, Pittsburgh Folk Festival. Her neighbors and her family members all experienced her dedication to charity boards, committees, religious ministries and end of life care. The Lithuanian government officially recognized her charity board’s work with a formal reception in the capital city of Vilnius. Fun loving yet serious, kind yet determined, her presence was a constant, gentle breeze, which filled sails and moved ships along.
Viewing will be on Monday, Nov. 27 from 5 to 8 pm at ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. The funeral mass will take place at 10 am, Tuesday, Nov. 28 at St. Joseph Church, 1125 Leishman Ave., New Kensington. Please consider donations to Catholic Relief Services, in lieu of flowers.
