Mary Anna Colwell, 92, of Lower Burrell died on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021. She was born July 24, 1929 in New Kensington to the late William Shaner and Thelma Irene (Hecker) Bateson.
Mary led her life with a commitment and faith in Christ, and most recently attended The River: A Community Church in New Kensington. She served her community being a special needs caretaker for all of God’s children in her home, which she built with love. She nurtured and taught the mentally handicapped, and always stepped in when there was no one for them. You entered as a friend, and left as family. Mary was an avid swimmer, and if your child knew how to swim, it was most likely Mary who taught them life survivor skills and perfected their swim strokes at the YMCA pool. When she wasn’t making everlasting memories in her home with her family and friends, she had her toes in the sand, kicking back on the beach where she loved to vacation.
Mary will be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren, Chris, Stephen, Diane, Keri Sue, and Russell III; and siblings, Lois, Kathy, and Chuck.
In addition to her parents, she will be joined in her next phase by her husband of 40 years, Russell E. Colwell Sr.; daughter, Darla Eberhardt; sons, Dennis and Russell Jr.; and sisters, Margaret, Alice, and Donna; and brother in infancy, Kenny.
