Marcinia Scruggs, beloved mother, gramma, sister, aunt, and friend of many, entered God’s Kingdom on November 10 at the blessed age of 88. Marcinia was born on February 18th, 1934, in Homestead, PA, and raised in the Glen-Hazel area. She lived for many years at the Citizen Plaza Apartments and Ridge Ave Senior Apartments in New Kensington, PA.
Marcinia (“mom”, “gram”, “Ceener”, “Marcy”) was a fun-loving, beautiful Christian woman with a very big heart. As she battled many health challenges throughout the years, she shared her joy, her heart and a smile with anyone she came in contact with. Enjoying life to the fullest, she loved shopping, singing and dancing anywhere and everywhere. She was admired for her glamorous color coordinated full ensemble leaving no shoe, hat, purse, or jewelry behind.
Marcinia was the first daughter of the departed Cannon and Virginia (Boykin) Robinson. Being the second oldest of twelve siblings, Marcinia spent most of her life raising children and managing a home. She later married her departed husband of 50 plus years, Rev. Robert J. (BJ) Scruggs, bore six children and survived to be part of five generations of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Outside of her own, she raised many more children who found their way into her heart and home. She worked outside the home for just a brief period of time at the Westinghouse Corporation in Cheswick, PA.
Marcinia and her husband, Rev. Robert J. Scruggs, associate pastor, were members of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in New Kensington, PA, for many years. Her husband was a Baptist evangelistic minister who served in many churches throughout the Allegheny-Kiski Valley and Pittsburgh areas bringing his songstress wife, Marcinia, and family with him. She will be remembered by many Christian congregations singing first soprano in the choir wearing her robe of glory.
Now that Marcinia has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of her physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for her. Marcinia joins her husband, parents, departed siblings, close friends, and family forever in Heaven.
Marcinia is survived by her children; Tyrone Scruggs of New Ken, Debra (William) Hagins of New Ken, Charmaine (Cecil) Edwards of New Ken, Robert (Laura) Scruggs of Verona, Carnetta Scruggs of New Ken, Ava (Harry) Johnson of Lower Burrell, Lisa Bynum of New Ken, and other children she assisted raising such as; Velma (Dan) Loco of Jennette and Jimmy Scruggs of Pittsburgh.
Marcinia is survived by her siblings; Barbara Robinson, Rev. Marcus Robinson Sr., Larry Robinson, Sheila Finch and sister-in-law Donna Robinson.
Siblings that proceeded her in death; BeBe Robinson, Gene Robinson, Betty Robinson, Sterling Billingsley, Marva Mitchell, Billy Robinson, and Carol Dickerson.
She was loved and will be missed by her family, many grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends expanding many generations.
Special thanks for the friendship of her Belair Healthcare roommate, Judy O., the caring staff at DCI New Kensington clinic, Community Life, her transportation driver, Ron, her providers and the nursing staff at St. Margaret Hospital.

WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, (724-335-1234), where a homecoming service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, at 11 am.
