John “Jack” E. Starr, 94, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
He was born January 12, 1930 to the late Elmer and Anna Stamm Starr, graduated in Ken-Hi in 1948, and was an army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Starr was a “do-it-yourself” individual who loved people and enjoyed a conversation with anyone.
Jack was a union welder by trade and worked at PPG, Ingalis Iron, Pullman-Standard, Mack Trucks and retired from Edgewater Steel.
A devout Lutheran, he was one of the oldest members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Kensington.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, caregiver and best friend for 70 memorable years, Sarah “Sally” Birch Starr; two caring daughters, Cindy (Vern) Rhoades and Jacki (Lynn) Ross; three beloved grandchildren, Vernon Rhoades IV, Valerie (Adam) Shreve and Ashley (James) Quackenbush; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Inara and James Quackenbush Jr., and Tristen Shreve.
He leaves special memories to Joyce (Tim) Heyer, Mylinda and David Murray, Joyce Trigg, Peggy (Larry) Bolha, and niece Patty (Rich) Masiarik.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, William & Richard Starr, and Margaret Kollar.
Viewing will be at ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington on Saturday, October 19, from 2pm until services at 6pm by Rev. Dean Ward.
