James Otis McGee, 95, of Penn Hills and formerly of Tarentum, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2023. He lived in Tarentum for 55 years until moving to Penn Hills.
He was born July 27, 1928 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Walter and Roxie Matthews McGee, and was also preceded in death by siblings,Lula, Wassie, Lillie Mae, Sarah Dell, Wardell, Curtis and Ezell; as well as a grandson Antoine Manley. His first wife of 30 years, Carrie McKinney, preceded him in death as well as his second wife, Mary Ferguson, also of 30 years.
Mr. McGee is survived by his children, James A. (Rosetta) McGee, Sharon (Jerome) Richardson, Anita (Thomas) Manley, Roxie McGee (Pendleton) Saulsberry, Yvonne, Annabelle and Victor McGee; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Mr. McGee was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church of Oakmont. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, and raising apple, pear and peach trees, and swimming and working out at the YMCA.
He was a boilermaker at US Steel, Saxonburg, and drove a school bus and maintained his CDL license until age 87. He was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Viewing will be on Thursday, December 14, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am at St. Paul Baptist Church, 180 Delaware Avenue, Oakmont followed by a US Army Honor Guard Service. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
