Howard Guy, Sr. Obituary

Mr. Howard (Tony) Anthony Guy Sr., 71, of Sophia, West Virginia passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Mr. Guy was born on February 27, 1954 in New Kensington, PA to the late Willie Guy and Gloria L. (McDonald) Guy of Shepherdstown, WV. He was a member of God’s House of Miracles in Beckley, WV. As a lifetime learner, he received many certifications and accolades. His proudest accomplishment was receiving his high school diploma from Jefferson High School (Shenandoah Junction, WV) in 1973, which he carried in his wallet until the Lord called him home.
Mr. Guy spent over 40 years in the construction industry as a Civil Engineer - Senior Inspector, most recently with Whitman, Requardt & Associates., LLP. He was a natural born trainer both professionally and personally, training many generations with grit, integrity and to carry a strong work ethic. From his kids to his grandkids, he taught them how to hang drywall, fix busted pipes, raise chickens and how to grow their own food. Most importantly, he loved to share his passion for fishing. Fishing was a lifelong lesson on and off the water. He was strict but the rules were simple, “duck or bleed!”
At a young age, Mr. Guy developed a love for music and taught himself how to play several instruments, mainly the piano. He played keyboards in many bands over the years, eventually formulating his own 1990’s group “Tony Guy and Neat”, where he released his 1991 album “It’s Real” that still streams on YouTube today. His music debuted in the top 10 of its time on local radio stations in the Washington, DC area. This exposure led the band to open for chart toppers including Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, as well as the late Mr. Ray Charles. Once he ended his traveling band days, Mr. Guy took a behind the scenes role and engineered music in his personal studio for aspiring singers, musicians and bands. He also staged and created light shows for local musical performances and was the composer of the background music for Kresics Total Body Workout aerobic workout VHS tapes.
Left to cherish Mr. Guy’s memory is his wife Anita of nearly 50 years who was also his lead singer, dance partner, home maker and number one supporter. He is survived by three children, Rayna (companion Alexander) of Beckley WV, Sauncha of Laurel MD and Howard Jr (companion Tracy) of Franklin VA; seven grandchildren including ‘The Boys” Michael Sercey of Beckley WV, Markus Guy (companion Sydney) of Morgantown WV and Marcell Guy of Beckley WV, Jamil, Lamar, Donovan and Ayina all of Atlanta, GA; Siblings Willie Guy of New Kensington PA, Anita Blair (William) of Spotsylvania VA, Debra Francis of Martinsburg WV, Tina Guy of New Kensington, PA and Pamela Tucker of Chicago, IL.; his faithful canine partner Dozer, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
In addition to his father, Mr. Guy was preceded in death by four brothers – Richard A. Guy, William J. Guy, Brian K. Guy and Dennis L. Guy.
