Harold Wayne “Tink” Heavner, 75, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
He was born in New Kensington on November 13, 1947 to the late Robert and Anna Antonacci Heavner, and was a 1966 graduate of Ken-Hi. He then enlisted in the US Army and served two years during the Vietnam War. Upon returning to New Kensington, Tink served the City of New Kensington as a Police Officer from 1968 until 1974. He then was employed by the Electro-Mechanical Division of Westinghouse (now Curtis-Wright) and retired in 1999.
Tink was a Disc Jockey for 40 years for many of the wedding and social venues in Western Pennsylvania. He held a federal broadcast license and was an amateur radio operator.
He was a member of Bethel Lodge 789 Free & Accepted Masons of Lower Burrell, where he served as Tyler, and the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Cheswick, where he belonged to the Hillbillies. He also was a Past President of Caravan 16 of the Shrine, and was a member of the American Legion Post 868, and the VFW Post 92, both of Lower Burrell. Tink enjoyed classic cars, oldies music and making and mixing tapes for his friends.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Pajerski) Heavner; sons, Scott R. (Gretchen) Heavner and Douglas D. Heavner; grandchildren, Kayla, Christian, Meara and Dominic; great-granddaughter, Callie; and brothers, Robert and Daniel Heavner.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother Fred Heavner.
Viewing will be on Thursday, October 19, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM (Bethel Lodge Masons will assemble in the funeral home Thursday at 7PM) and Friday, from 10AM until the service at 11AM (with Rev. Dean Ward, officiant) in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military services at the funeral home, on Friday, immediately after the funeral service. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
