George Henry Bowser, 95, of Allegheny Township, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 27, 2025.
Born on March 4, 1930, George was the beloved son of Earnest Leroy Bowser and Gladys Keefe Bowser. He graduated from Ken High in 1948 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952.
From 1953 to 1955, George served his country honorably as a Combat Engineer in the United States Army. Following his service, he built a distinguished career as a research chemist with PPG Industries, where he worked from 1955 until his retirement in 1989. A gifted inventor, George was the holder of numerous U.S. and international patents.
George was a man of deep faith, tireless energy, and boundless generosity. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 67 years, Shirley Lucille Latimer Bowser; and a proud father of three sons, David George (Deirdre Baylor) of West Pittston, Timothy Joel (Jodi Shults) of Stillwater, OK, and Todd Stephen (Yoshiko Bowser) of Port Matilda.
He is also survived by nine cherished grandchildren: David Michael Bowser, Ashley Elizabeth Williams, Bethany Ruth Bowser, Brian Jordan Bowser, Alexander Hunt Eubanks, Jesse Joel Bowser, Walter Spence Bowser, Tomoko Stephanie Bowser, and Roi Henri Bowser; and five adored great-grandchildren, Aurora Ruth DeMorrow, Brooks Fitzgerald Bowser, Boston Alexander Bowser, Blakely Rae Bowser, and Elon Jen.
George was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brothers Earnest G. Bowser and his sisters Alma E. Derringer and Dorothy A. Miller. He is survived by his brother Rev. Dr. Carl R. Bowser (Florida), and sisters Erith E. (South Carolina) and Gracie I. Haney (Illinois).
A lifelong servant to his community, George was active in numerous organizations, including Gideons International, the Lions Club of Allegheny Township, and Meals on Wheels. He was passionate about youth development and served as a counselor with Youth Guidance, a Royal Rangers leader at Evangel Heights Church, and a youth leader at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He was also a committed Boy Scout leader and supported international ministries through his church.
Music brought George great joy, and he was an enthusiastic member of many bands, including the Letter Carriers Marching Band, Kiski Valley Concert Marching Band, Armstrong County Marching Band, Pine Creek Community Marching Band, and both student and alumni bands of the University of Pittsburgh.
George loved camping, fishing, traveling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a humble man who loved deeply, helped often, and left a legacy of kindness and service.
Viewing will be Monday, July 7, 2025 in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 11am. Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will hold military honors immediately after the service.
He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell,
