Gene Dunkel Obituary

Gene C. Dunkel, 81, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024.  

He was born May 10, 1943 in New Kensington to the late William “Bill” and Ethel Mae Nolf Adams, graduating from Ken-Hi in 1961.

An Army veteran during the Vietnam era, Gene was stationed at Fort Knox and Fort Bragg, working in the armory, dispensing munitions and ordnance.  He was a qualified sharpshooter.  

He was the Supervisor of Transportation of Raw Materials at Allegheny Ludlum in Brackenridge until his retirement in 1998.

Gene was a member of the New Kensington Tyrian Lodge #644 Free & Accepted Masons, and was a past president of the Allegheny Valley Caravan #16 of the Syria Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S., Cheswick, and a past chairman of their Hillbilly Clan #53.  He was an avid Corvette enthusiast who enjoyed attending car cruises.  He also enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.

Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Jane (Hanna) Dunkel.  Surviving are his daughter, Lisa M. (Chris) Gural of Lower Burrell, son, Jason K. (Monica) Dunkel of New Kensington, and four grandchildren, Elisabeth & Christina Gural and Morgan & Dominick Dunkel.

Viewing will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 5-8PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where services will be held on Thursday, October 31 at 10AM by Rev. Dean Ward.  Burial with military honors by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold.  Those desiring may contribute to Syria Shrine Hospitals for Children, 1877 Shriners Way, Cheswick, PA 15024-1075. A Masonic Service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
