Frederick Hamel Obituary

Frederick David Hamel, 67, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family,  He was born May 9, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frederick B. & Dorothy Louise Hay Hamel, and graduated from Hampton High School.

His daughter, Erica writes:

"I’m going to try and tell you who my dad was. Fred, or Rick to others, but daddy to me. From the stories I’m told he was a quiet child. He loved playing alone with his army figures. He would build the entire battle ground he and his father designed. That’s probably why he joined the Navy. He loved playing in the woods with his brother John, and all the friends from the neighborhood. He became a lifeguard when he was a teenager, then went off to the Navy, where he got his Bachelor's degree in sociology. I know I’m forgetting a lot of things in between, like being an Eagle Scout, role play costume designer,  dungeons and dragons style games, live action/board player, nuclear submarine war vet. My dad was pretty amazing. When his mom and dad’s health declined, he moved back in and took care of them. He met my mom and fell in love immediately.  He became a husband, a father and shortly thereafter a grandfather.  He was always a fantastic friend and family member. If you needed help he was the one to call. He could fix almost anything. He had a sidekick named Angel. He and that dog were inseparable. She went on the job with him, she went to the store with him, and she guarded him as he passed. I know I’m missing so much more because my dad did so very much. It’s hard to just say that he was a beloved son, a beloved brother, a beloved husband, a beloved father and a beloved friend.

He will be missed by his children, Erica Cardillo and James Guy; his grandchildren Alexandra, Angelo, Michael, Teonna, and Kami, his sisters Dottie McCaughtry, and Barb Hamel, his nieces and nephews, Erin, Ezra , Zeb, Naomi, Matthew, and Mark. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

However, he is now surrounded by love and the welcoming arms of his Father Frederick Hamel, Mother Dorothy Hamel (Hay), his brother John Hamel, and his wonderful wife Debra Hamel (Penn).

We will all miss you Daddy."
