Edward J. Menhart Sr., 68, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
He was born in New Kensington on June 29, 1954 to the late Jessie & Virginia (Bordell) Menhart, and served with the US Army from 1970 - 1973 during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Menhart recently retired as a forklift operator at Packaging Corp. of America, Cheswick, where he worked the past 15 years. He previously owned S&E Construction in New Kensington. He enjoyed boating, fishing and camping on his lot along the Allegheny River, building things, and motorcycling in his younger years. He recently enjoyed gaming on his X-Box, but his biggest love was spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Toby.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Nettie M. (Wolfe) Menhart; sons, Ed (Trish) Menhart, Jr., and Shawn (Kylee) Menhart; six grandchildren, Christopher, Alex, Lyssa, Drake, Logan and Joseph; several nieces and nephews including Ericka Copney; and siblings, Walter (Audra), Joseph, Bill and Rob (Lynette) Menhart, Patty (Bob) Fotheringham, Esther (Carl) Drum and Mary (Harry) Simmons.
Besides his parents, he was preceded by siblings, Jessie, Ronald and Sam Menhart and his in-laws, Leonard E. & Mary Wolfe.
Viewing will be on Friday, April 14, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM by Rev. Dean Ward. Military Honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow the service at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
