Donald R. Hardin, 83, of Plum Boro passed away peacefully Friday March 30, 2018 at his home. He was born July 23, 1934 in Jenners, Somerset County, and was son of the late William Hardin and Mary (Warner) Hardin. Don was a graduate of Homer City High School and a Vetran Marine, having served in the Korean Conflict. He spent much of his career as a Drug and Alcohol Therapist working as an adolescent specialist at St. Francis Hospital, and a therapist at The Whale’s Tale. Don was instrumental in founding Bethlehem Haven, a shelter for homeless women. After retirement, he delivered newspapers for the Valley New Dispatch for over 20 years. Don was an active friend of Bill W., celebrating 58 years of sobriety and founded many groups in the Pittsburgh area. He loved camping at Cook Forest, talking with his many friends, and was an avid reader. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family. To his family and friends “Don was love.” He was a loving, wise, patient and honest man, blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, who walked humbly with the God of his understandin. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Rita and his 6 children; Donald R. (Kim) Hardin Jr., Susan Hardin, David Hardin, Lana (Nick) Musti, Jill (Tony) Pietropaolo, and David (Kristen) Kiser, four grandchildren; Amanda (Jerome) Vicinelly, Mia and Cooper Pietropaolo, and Cameron Kiser. He had two great-grandsons; Aidan Teaters and Niko Vicinelly. He was also survived by a sister, Carol Gardner. Family and Friends will be received Wednesday April 4th 2018 , from 2-8 p.m. at The ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Funeral service will be held on Thursday April 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at The First United Presbyterian Church of Tarentum, 913 Lock Street Tarentum, with Reverend Phil Beck presiding. Fellowship will immediately follow after service at the church. All are asked to please go directly to the Church Thursday morning.
