Charles A. “Snuffy” Smith, Sr., 84, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024.
He was born February 5, 1940, in Pittsburgh to the late Charles and Pearl Alcorn Smith (Cooper), was a graduate of Verona High School and then served in the US Army from 1959 until 1962.
Mr. Smith was a machinist for Edgewater Steel for over 35 years. He retired to become a golfer and fisherman and spent many hours at the pond on his property, “Snuffy’s Place.” He enjoyed gardening plants and flowers and enjoyed all wildlife, feeding his deer daily.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia L. Azzara Smith; three children, Charles A. Smith Jr., Walter F. “Sonny” Smith, and Maria M. (Ben) Ratliff; grandchildren, Rachel Catherine Smith, Nicole Patricia Smith, Bennett Harold Ratliff III and Lillian Pearl Ratliff; great-grandchildren, Aaron Rivera, Adrian Martinez, and Giovanni, DeAngelo and Santino Green; and brothers, Ronald Howard Smith and Robert Michael Cooper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Aaron Smith; and two brothers, Richard C. Smith and Jeffrey Peter Cooper.
Viewing will be Friday, July 5, from 5-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington where a blessing service will be held Saturday, July 6, at 11 AM. Military honors will be conducted by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the service. Burial will be private. The family requests that those wishing to send flowers send a perennial plant or other plant that can be transplanted to “Snuffy’s Place,” or a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
