Carl “Butch” Edward Sokalski, Jr., 73, of New Kensington, PA, passed away peacefully in the early hours of December 22, 2023 with family by his side. He valiantly battled Parkinson’s Disease for many years, but he did not let it slow his enjoyment for life until his last year.
He was born in New Kensington on October 11,1950, to the late Carl and Mary (Wendereusz) Sokalski. Carl graduated from Valley High School in 1968 and also attended the Northern Westmoreland Vocational School for carpentry. Carl then furthered his trade skills by working for the Arden H. Verner Painting Company of Springdale, PA, as first a carpenter, then as a residential and industrial painter and foreman for 35 years.
Carl loved creating, tackling and conquering building projects; he was capable of building a house from the ground up. He was not one to sit still and found work constantly. His handyman skills were coveted, and he was often called for advice in any building or construction situation by family and friends. His energy was shared with others, for he never hesitated to help when needed.
Motorcycles and cars were another passion. He was a skilled dirt bike rider when young, riding trails and climbing mountains. Later years led to street bikes, and recently Carl bought a custom Harley trike he transported South to enjoy rides with his buddies. He was never one to be bored!
Carl and his good friend restored an 1968 AMX purchased new by his wife in 1969 . The car won many awards and trophies to prove its worth.
Carl and his wife, Chris, also enjoyed RVing in their later years and wintering in Florida. There were many friendships formed from the US and Canada which have lasted for years. These friendships created tight bonds, with friends visiting from afar to help during his last months. Parkinson’s was the only thing that ever slowed down this remarkable man. What he loved most was his family.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer to honor his memory. He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Christine ( London) Sokalski, his son, Carl C. Sokalski (Leslie Smith), and his daughter, Crista L. Bernard (Brian). He also leaves his only sister( with whom he shared many morning coffees), Marcia Hetrick (Clifford), and his cherished grandchildren, Bentley Bernard, and London “Bo” Bernard, a sister-in law and her husband, Cindy and “Chick” Wagner, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to those helped with his care.
It is the family’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation or New Kensington Animal Protectors in memory of Carl Edward Sokalski, Jr. SERVICES WERE ENTRUSTED TO ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD.
