Barbara Gail (Astorino) Smith

Barbara Gail Astorino Smith, 67, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024.  

She was born February 21, 1957 in Pittsburgh, to the late Samuel G. & Lois Boyle Astorino and was a 1975 graduate of Fox Chapel High School.  She went on to graduate from the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and was a home health care professional through Passavant Hospital for almost 20 years.  Previously she was the beloved hostess at the New Kensington location of the Italian Oven for ten years, until their closing.  

Surviving are her three adored children, Christopher Clayton Smith, Matthew Johnathon Smith and Ryan Markus Smith, all of New Kensington; and siblings, Timothy C. (Donna) Astorino of North Huntington, Richard A. Astorino of Sharpsburg and Teresa L. “Teri” (Mike) Reese of Charleston, SC; also numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Charles Smith, in early childhood.  

Barbara was a Daughter, Sister and Friend but it was her mother’s heart that defined her. She loved her boys beyond measure and that love will transcend time. Everyone recognized this quality in her making many call her “mom” Her door was always open and whether you needed a shoulder an ear or just lifted up she was there. She was someone who could laugh at the inconveniences of life,  find happiness in a good day and joy on a bad one. Her laugh brought a smile to so many and she will be missed always. God took an angel a lot sooner than he should have.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the families convenience.
