Arcelius Dunbar Lyle Jr., 78 of Hagerstown Maryland, the son of Arcelius Dunbar Sr. and Virginia Naomi Lyle, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2021 in Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport, Maryland.

He was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia Hospital on September 22,1942.  He was the first of six sons and all of his nine siblings looked up to him as their big brother. He lived his early life in Paden City, West Virginia where he attended and graduated from high school. Arcelius was a phenomenal competitor, finishing his high school athletic career as an All-State basketball player, All-State football player, and was a Scholastic All-American running back.

After attending West Liberty University, he relocated to Hagerstown, Maryland where he was a resident since 1962. Professionally, for 32 years he was a Mack Truck employee, having taken early retirement in 1997.  For much of his tenure with Mack Truck, his off hours were spent managing and being lead singer for the most popular rock band in Northern Maryland.

He leaves behind countless loved ones including his four children, Arcelius III of Hagerstown, MD, Elga Lyle of Philadelphia, Nadine Nie And Benjamin Lyle, both of Hagerstown, MD; sisters, Patricia Bullock of Arlington Va, Rev. Barbara (Rev. Roger) Thomas of Lower Burrell, Ruth Johnson, of New Kensington, And Lynn Lyle of Raleigh, NC; brothers, Garry Lyle of St. Petersburg, FL, David (Adrianne) Lyle, of Jeannette, PA, and Robert (Luann) Lyle of New Kensington; partner, Lynn Douglas, of Williamsport, MD; and numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces & nephews, along with a host of lifelong friends in Paden City, West Virginia who will also mourn his death.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Donald Keith and Richard Edward Lyle, both of New Kensington. 

A private family viewing will be held at 10 AM on Monday, Jan. 11, 2020  in the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home Ltd., 217 Freeport Road New Kensington immediately followed by a private family-only internment at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Please practice strict Covid-19 guidelines. Memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
