Ralph Schafer Obituary

Ralph J. Schafer, 91, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2018.

He was born January 22, 1927 in New Kensington, to the late Ralph and Catherine Dunn Schafer.

Mr. Schafer was a shipping supervisor for Union Spring and Manufacturing Company in New Kensington. He enjoyed Pittsburgh sports, and was an avid fan of high school and collegiate sports. He especially enjoyed flower gardening and vegetable gardening and working in his yard.

Survivors include his son, Gregory Todd (Michelle Fortuna) Schafer of New Kensington; and grandsons, Gordon James (fiance, Leah Haynes) Schafer, Jakob Glen Schafer, and Calvin Joseph Schafer; his sister, Betty Longo; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie H. Askin Schafer on February 11, 2013; a son who died at birth, Glen Schafer; and a daughter, Bonnie Valjean O’Leary who died March 13, 2002;

Viewing will be Friday 4-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 AM by Rev. Rex Wasser. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
