Bernice Wolosyn Obituary

Bernice Wolosyn, formerly of New Kensington PA, died July 30, 2018 from complications of a broken hip. Bernice was born in 1932 to the late Joseph and Irene Schaffner. She graduated from New Kensington High School in 1950. She attended Carnegie Tech where she majored in drama. She married William Wolosyn in 1951 and they had six daughters for whom she sewed all their wedding, communion and prom dresses and (many) Halloween costumes.Bernice, along with her husband, was a wedding photographer, with the last wedding she photographed being one of her daughters in 1989. As her daughters got older, Bernice entered the work force working at Superior Microfilm Systems and retiring from the State of Pennsylvania Welfare Department in 1997 where she cared for her clients and advised them on their life choices. She was thrilled when Lily, her third granddaughter, was born and she was able to take care of her on a daily bases managing her potty training, teaching her to read and getting her off the bus. Bernice loved fashion, movies, police dramas, gardening, reading, sewing, knitting and politics.  She passed along these loves to her daughters who will miss her dearly and cherish the various scarves and sweaters she knitted for them. She is survived by: her brother, Mark Schaffner, who is a pastor in Florida; five daughters, Wendy Wolosyn and Jennifer Stalewski of Allison Park PA, Nancy Wolosyn and Margie Shull of Santa Cruz CA, Dorothy Luckie of East Lansing MI; and three grandchildren, Dr. Hannah Shull, Dr. Olivia Shull and Ms. Lily Stalewski. She was proceeded in death by: her husband William Wolosyn; two brothers Alfred ‘Toby’ Schaffner, David Schaffner; and her oldest and beloved daughter Olga Wolosyn. There will be a funeral mass on August 18, 2018, 10 am at St. Ursula Roman Catholic Church in Allison Park, PA. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Lower Burrell at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peoples Library, New Kensington PA. Arrangements were entrusted to ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTd 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA.
