Aureola Stein Obituary

Aureola "Aurie" M. Ernette Stein, 90, of New Kensington, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at Harmar Village Care Center. She lived in New Kensington most of her life but had been a resident of the Care Center since suffering a serious fall in 2010. Born Feb. 20, 1928, in Jeannette, to the late Bernard and Genevieve Brecht Ernette, she was a 1946 graduate of Jeannette High School and a graduate of New Kensington Commercial School. She served as the executive assistant to the president of NMRS, formerly in Plum, for many years, and was one of the founders of Siemco in New Kensington. She later worked at Braeburn Steel in Lower Burrell and as the assistant to the New Kensington Moose Administrator until retiring in 2006. Aurie was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and a past madam president of the Eagles Auxiliary, both in New Kensington. In addition, she was a life member of Women of the Moose and served as a past deputy grand regent for the state of Pennsylvania. In 1974, she was the first woman to receive the Paul P. Schmitz Honorary Mooseheart Award and was named a life member of the Mooseheart Alumni Association. The accomplishments of her children and grandchildren were a great source of joy and pride in her life. She enjoyed spending her free time supporting and encouraging them in their pursuits. Aurie also enjoyed bowling, dancing and listening to big band music, working with flowers and plants, and traveling with her friends. She was proud of the fact that she never missed voting in an election and was an ardent supporter of her community and those less fortunate, including serving on the New Kensington Centennial Committee, cooking for various causes, and lending her time and talents where needed. In the '60s, she was one of founders of the Minutemen Fife and Drum Corps in New Kensington. Survivors include six children, Robert F. (Ewa) Stein, of Poland, Karen L. Motosicky, of New Kensington, Lawrence E. (Mary Shean) Stein, of New Kensington, Mark J. (Ardis) Stein, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Aureola A. (Wayne) Schuerle, of Barnesville, Ohio, and Diane M. (Thomas) Swigart, of Lower Burrell; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Jackson, of Macomb Township, Mich.; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ernette, of Harrison City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2007 by Robert W. Stein, whom she married Sept. 23, 1950; her grandson, Erik G. Stein, in 2015; her son-in-law, Louis S. Motosicky, in 2011; her brothers, Bernard, James, Thomas and Paul Ernette; and her sister, Genevieve Shaffer.
