Arvid "Andy" Anderson Obituary

Arvid “Andy” Neil Anderson, 92, of New Kensington, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Excela Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Born December 11, 1931, in Denver, Colorado, he was the only child of the late Reuben Wilford and Pearl Alida (Anderson) Anderson. A graduate of Denver South High School, Andy earned a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1954 and then served a 2-year stint with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Employed by ALCOA, he spent 39 years in Cleveland, Knoxville, Australia and Pittsburgh, where he specialized in foil rolling and was awarded several patents. While in Tennessee, Andy met his “desert star”, Zeinab: married for 48 years, they had a deep, abiding love for each other and shared countless international adventures. A member of Calvary Lutheran Church and a longtime lay minister, Andy’s Christian faith was an essential part of his life; he was a 53-year member of the Ezekiel 37 Prayer Group, sharing the “Good News” with and mentoring many people. Professionally, Andy was an active member of Tau Beta Pi, ASM International and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. His hobbies included playing the piano, singing in a barbershop quartet, making his famous Christmas fudge, and exploring anything to do with bridges, trains and cars. A patriotic man, Andy loved his country and espoused the ideals of freedom, democracy, hard work and optimism. Andy was preceded in death by his wife, Zeinab Ra’oof Allos Anderson. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda "Swan" Mueller, of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Hayley, Lily and Will Mueller; a sister-in-law, Widad Zakko, of London, England; several Iraqi nieces and nephews, and his Denver cousins. The viewing will be held on Wednesday (February 7), from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM at ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service officiated by his pastor, Reverend Marsha Adams, will be held on Thursday (February 8) at 10 AM in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 221 Ridge Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068. Anyone attending the service is asked to go directly to the church. Entombment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell. The Ezekiel 37 Prayer Group will meet at 7 PM Wednesday in the funeral home to hold services for their late member. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy’s memory to the Colorado School of Mines (PO Box 4005, Golden, CO 80402). To leave an online condolence, visit www.rossgwalker.com.
