Pauline O'Connell

Pauline O’Connell, 87, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Colonial Park Care Center in Harrisburg. She was born September 15, 1930 in East Deer Township to the late Stanley & Anna Iwanowicz Niemiec, and was a graduate of East Deer High School. She moved to New Kensington and met and married her loving husband David F. O’Connell in 1951. She was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of New Kensington. Mrs. O’Connell was blessed with seven daughters, three of whom passed away as babies.  She was employed for over 30 years at the Little Shop at the former Citizens General Hospital.  She was known as the “Pie Lady” because of her great baking skills. She is survived by her four daughters, Kathleen (Al) Yarzebinski of Indiana Township, Patricia (Dave) Suhr of Harrisburg, Maureen (Mid Reed) O’Connell of Allegheny Township and Marian O’Connell of Allegheny Township; five grandchildren, Julie (Jon) Colton, Daniel Yarzebinski, Katy (Shawn) Maguire, Adam (Lori Shetter) Suhr and Melanie (Dwayne) Shindledecker; also nine great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1976; her three daughters in infancy, Charlene, Cindy and Pauline; her sisters, Helen Zygarowicz, Stella Pacha, Sophia Niemiec, Genevieve Hustak and Loretta Askins; and her brother Joseph Niemiec. Viewing will be Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington.  A Christian Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 12:30 in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington.  Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.  The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all the staff at Colonial Park Care Center and Grane Hospice for all the great care and love they gave to their mother.
