Louise (Kennedy) Shaffer

Louise Kennedy Shaffer, 96, of Clayton, N.C. passed away Jan. 12, 2017 at the Springbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 20, 1920 in New Kensington, P.A., daughter of the late Frank Kennedy and Edith Yund but had resided in North Carolina since 2002. She was a 1938 graduate of Harbrack High School and then attended beauty school.  Louise was a long time member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Kensington where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. Her hobbies included singing and playing the piano. Survivors include her son, Duane Edward Shaffer of Lehigh Acres, F.L.; her daughter, Karen Lee Whitfield of Willow Spring, N.C; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Shaffer; one brother, Paul Kennedy who was killed in action in France during WWII; and her infant sons Frank John, and Lee James Shaffer. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 on Friday, Jan. 20 with a Funeral Service at 11 on Saturday, Jan. 21 at ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 217 Freeport Rd. New Kensington. Following the services, entombment will be at the Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum in Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 221 Ridge Ave. New Kensington.
