John “Jack” Sluss, 88, of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was born August 16, 1929 in Louisville, OH, to the late Dewight & Margaret Corby Sluss, and lived in Lower Burrell since 1969. Mr. Sluss received his Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and a Juris Doctorate (JD), both from the University of Baltimore. He was an engineer with the Nuclear Center in Westinghouse in Monroeville for 36 years, retiring in 1992. He was a longtime member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church in New Kensington. He enjoyed working on his farm and watching his children and grandchildren swim. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Alice Shissler Sluss; children, Jay M. Sluss, Tammie M. (Leonard) Yohe, and Brad Sluss, all of Lower Burrell, Holley L. (Ned) Williams of Charlotte, NC, Eric V. (Cathey) Sluss of Peters Township, and Brad F. Sluss of Lower Burrell; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grand daughter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Jay Sluss in 2008; brother, Edward Sluss and sister, Phyllis Ann Stephens.
Viewing will be on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a funeral service will be held Saturday at 11AM. Rev. Dean Ward, pastor of The River - A Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be private.
