John R. Galasso, Sr.

John R. Galasso, Sr., 69, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. He was born on August 25, 1946, on the Northside of Pittsburgh, to the late Generoso “Joe” & Lena Costanzo Galasso, and was a 1964 graduate of Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, then proudly served in the US Army from 1965 - 1967 in Vietnam. He was a craneman at Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge for 31 years, retiring in 2003. Mr. Galasso was a fan of all Pittsburgh sports, including the Panthers, Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching old western television shows and movies, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Kathleen Ann Purpura Galasso; his children Gina M. Galasso of New Kensington and John R. (Jenny) Galasso Jr. of Cheswick; his two grandsons, Giovanni and Matteo Galasso; and his sister, Barbara Galasso of Pittsburgh. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Galasso. Viewing will be on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., where a service will be held Tuesday at 10AM by Rev. Dean Ward, pastor of The River - A Community Church. Military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will be accorded at the funeral home, after the service. Burial will be private.
