Hazel I. Davis

Hazel Idella Davis, 97, of Vandergrift, passed away Tuesday May 10, 2016. She was born November 27, 1918 in Sharpsville to the late Leonard and Etta Daniels Hinkle, and was a lifetime resident of Sardis. Hazel was a homemaker, babysat for many families and also worked in the kitchen at Bonello’s. She was a 1936 graduate of Allegheny Township High School. She was a past member of Holiday Park United Methodist Church, and most recently attended church at St. Paul’s Highfield Lutheran Church in Vandergrift, and was a member of “Helping Hands.” Hazel enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling, square dancing, helping and taking care of others and spending time with her family. Survivors include two daughters, Linda L. Murray of Vandergrift and Helen L. (Ron) Novak of Plum Borough; four grandchildren, Lisa Schrader, Cindy (John) Phillips, Melissa Novak and Lt. Colonel Ronald (Jennifer) Novak; and her two great-grandchildren who were the sunshine of her life, Jacob and Joshua Schrader. Besides her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Glenn T. Davis, who died in 1976; five brothers, Frank, Ed, Clair, Bill and Jack Hinkle; a sister, Dorothy Schmidt; and two half-sisters, May Comer and June Caskey. Viewing will be on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in her church, St. Paul’s Highfield Lutheran Church, 1595 Dime Road, Vandergrift, where a service will be Saturday at 10 AM. Rev. James Arter will officiate. Burial will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont. Anyone wishing to send flowers, please send them directly to the church.
