Francis W Wiedl

Francis W. Wiedl, 96, of Skaneateles, NY, and formerly of New Kensington, and a long time resident of Bradenton, FL,  passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2017. He was born March 17, 1920 Akron, OH, to the late Frank L. & Sophia Reese Wiedl, came to New Kensington in 1934, graduated from Ken-Hi in 1937, and proudly served his country in the Army during WWII, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the 12th Calvary.  During his service career, he was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, WWII Victory Ribbon, and the Army Occupation Medal (Japan). Mr. Wiedl received an ICS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1956 and an associate degree from Penn State in Product Management in 1963. Francis had a long career spanning a total of 43 years with ALCOA, 33 years in the New Kensington plant, and was a supervisor there for 6 years.  Continuing as a supervisor, he also spent 6 years in Jamaica and over 4 years in Arkansas at ALCOA’s bauxite plants. Survivors include his children, Patricia (Joseph) Miceli and Mary Elizabeth (John) Grau; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Carol.    Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Fassett Wiedl; and son Keith F. Wiedl. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 28, from 9 AM until time of service at 11 AM in ROSS G, WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington.  Rev.
