Frances H. Miller

January 22, 1915 ~ June 9, 2016 (age 101) 101 Years Old


Frances H. Miller, 101, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016. She was born January 22, 1915 in Butler, to the late Clyde and Frances Kennedy Holmes and lived in Butler for several years during her childhood before moving to New Kensington. She graduated from the New Kensington High School. Mrs. Miller was a secretary and did administrative and accounting work for Philips Gas, ALCOA, Keystone Dairy and Braeburn Steel. She also was a bookkeeper at her husband’s business, Gail Miller Plumbing. Frances was a member of Parnassus Presbyterian Church and more recently of the First United Presbyterian Church in Tarentum. She started the first Girl Scout troop in New Kensington and served with the Girl Scouts for over 50 years. She was President of the New Kensington Girl Scout Council, was on the Salvation Army board and a member of “DAR” (Daughters of the American Revolution). She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and always participated in birthdays, school concerts, holidays and other special occasions. She also loved and enjoyed her husband’s family, spending much time with them at the Miller Farm in Brookville, PA. Frances received a letter from the President of the United States for never missing a vote, of which she was extremely proud. Surviving are her nieces, Marilyn (Ken) Bush of Lower Burrell and Judy D’Argenzio of Port Lucie, FL; great nieces and nephews; Ken (Debra) Bush Jr., Becky (Gary) Jensen, Beth Snyder, Jeff (Ann) Bush, Leda (Brian) Hays, Deborah Connolly, Diane Merdinger, Lisa Kudika, Stephanie Black and Kara D’Argenzio; 23 great-great nieces and nephews and 14 great-great-great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Gail Miller, who died on January 19, 2012; a brother, Allison Holmes; and two step-sisters, Dorothy Murray and Hazel Torchia. Viewing will be 2-4 & 7-9 on Monday in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM in First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock Street, Tarentum PA 15084. Anyone attending the service should go directly to the church.
