Ester R. Shiring Makuta, 91, of Arnold, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born July 16, 1926 in Kittanning, to the late Charles H. & Rebecca Barber Shiring, she was an Arnold resident since 1941, and graduated from Arnold High School in 1944. Mrs. Makuta was an operator for Bell Telephone in New Kensington in the 1940’s. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington since 1941, where she was affiliated with the Catholic Daughters of America (CDA) and Christian Mothers, and was a CCD teacher and lector at the church. She enjoyed all activities of the church, and keeping up with current events. Survivors include her daughter with whom she made her home, Shirley Ann Makuta, Esq., son John H. (Mary) Makuta of Ballwin, MO; granddaughter, Audrey Elizabeth Makuta; great-grandson, Jack Makuta; and her brother, Charles W. Shiring of Lower Burrell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John Augustus Makuta on April 5, 2008; a grandson, John Arthur Makuta; and two brothers, Mark A. Shiring and Paul H. Shiring. Viewing will be on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where prayers of transfer will be held Friday at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 1125 Leishman Avenue, New Kensington. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. The Knights of Columbus will recite the Rosary Thursday night at 7:30 PM. Condolences can be expressed at www.rossgwalker.com
