Betty Ruth Schowalter

Betty R. Schowalter, 98, of Longwood at Oakmont, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2017.

She was born August 14, 1919 in St. Joseph, Missouri to the late Julian & Gladys Stallard and was a resident of Longwood at Oakmont the past 20 years.  Previously she lived in Murrysville.

Mrs. Schowalter received a Bachelors degree from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College.

Survivors include two sons, Donald R. (Nancy) Schowalter, M.D. of Lower Burrell and Robert K. Schowalter, V.M.D. of Plum Borough; three grandsons, Michael (Katie), Jack, and Mark Schowalter, and her brother, Donald J. (Loah) Stallard, M.D., of St. Joseph, Missouri. She is also survived by the Stallard’s children, Julie, Mary, Don, Jim and their families.

Betty was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, and a long time volunteer in the gift shop at Forbes Hospital.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Kenneth A. Schowalter on November 1, 1997. 

Private services and burial will be held at Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough.  ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., of New Kensington, was entrusted with the arrangements.
