Betty Jean Rucks Howell

Betty Jean Rucks Helvy Howell, 87, formerly of New Kensington, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at her home in Conyers, GA. Betty was born on March 2, 1930 to Codoshia Stevenson Rucks and Omar Rucks in Princeton, Arkansas and was the widow of Samuel Howell.  She attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in New Kensington, PA, and was also a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary #53 in Arnold, PA. Retired from Drs. S.J. Antoon and K.G. Gupta’s office after working there for 30 years. She worked at Citizens General Hospital for 16 years in the operating room. Surviving are three daughters, Linda Morrison and Sandra Tolbert, who she made her home with in Conyers, GA; and Valeria Helvy of New Kensington; two sons, Vincent Helvy (Cynthia) of Fort Wayne, IN; and Darvin Helvy (Audrey) of Spartanburg, SC; one step-daughter, Sandra Howell of NY; two step-sons, Samuel Howell, Jr., of NY, and Gregory Howell (deceased); a sister, Valeria Denson (Leonard) of NY, a brother, Nolan Jones of NY; Grandchildren: Eric Helvy (Nicole), Michael Helvy (Stacy), David Helvy (Deitre), Matthew Helvy, Jermaine Helvy, Sean Morrison (Tamika), Jeffrey Morrison, Leslie Morrison; Great Grandchildren: Giovannni, Nicolas, Samiyah, Maia, Nina, Joshua, Princess, Jonathan, Matisyn, McKenzie, Aaliyah. Adopted Daughters and Sons: Cora Ackles McDonald (Richard), Darla Smith, Debra Jones (Jimmie), Cecil Smith (deceased); her God-daughter, Lynn Ackles Boykins; and many beloved step-grandchildren and adopted grandchildren: Celeste, Gregory, Jamie, Samuel III, Michael (deceased), Tanika, Lacy, Anthony, Candice, Mike, Di Shawn, Makin, Ashelle, Mark, Carmen, Robert, Jimmie, Sarina, Mikayla, and Kriston.Mrs. Howell was predeceased in death by her father, Omar Rucks; mother, Codoshia Stevens Rucks Jones Bennett; by her first husband, Eugene Helvy and second husband, Samuel Howell; and a brother Horace Rucks. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:00 am, Friday, July 14, 2017, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 1150 Asa W. Roberts Way (4th Ave), New Kensington, PA 15068. A service honoring her memory will follow at 11:00 am, at the church, conducted by Reverend Ronald Simmons.  ROSS G.
